True Blood Season 2 Premiere On HBO Is Most Watched Show In 2 Years

According to HBO,

“The second season premiere of True Blood with 3.7 million viewers was the most watched HBO program since The Sopranos season finale on 6/10/07. Sunday’s 9:00 pm airing was up 157% in comparison to the series’ premiere and 51% in comparison to the first season finale. Including the 11:00 pm airing, True Blood had 5.1 million viewers, also the largest Sunday gross audience for the series.

Channel 4 To Broadcast True Blood Season 1 In The UK


Channel 4 has acquired UK rights to broadcast True Blood Season 1. A premiere date has not been announced but it will air later in 2009.

UK fans of True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman) may be pleased to know that they have also picked up the rights to Generation Kill, which features the actor.

According to Gary Levin of USA Today, episode 8 of True Blood scored a ratings high of 2.1 million for it’s initial broadcast on September 26th, 2008.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“HBO's new drama "True Blood," which airs at 9 p.m. Sundays, has shown a slight uptick in each of its four weeks on the air, averaging 1.82 million viewers this week vs. 1.81 million a week ago. With DVR, on-demand and repeat data factored in, the series' first two episodes are averaging 5.9 million each.”

Ratings for episode 2 of True Blood were up this week, compared with the premiere. The show garned 1.8 million viewers for it’s September 14th, 2008 9:00PM ET broadcast (vs. 1.4 million for the pilot which aired September 7th).

For the evening of September 7th, 2008 True Blood episode 1 was watched by an estimated 2.1 Million combined viewers during it’s 9:00PM and 10:30PM ET broadcasts. “HBO officials expect "True Blood's" viewer tally to exceed 4 million once repeat watching on myriad HBO platforms, as well as DVRs, are eventually factored in.” Ratings for the 9:00PM airing only were 1.4 million.

Meanwhile, Sookie’s best friend Tara (Rutina Wesley) goes to work for Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) at his bar and grill, while Sookie’s roguish brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) finds himself in hot water when a “fangbanger” with whom he’s been intimate meets a tragic end.

HBO True Blood Specials To Air Premiere Weekend

HBO will be broadcasting two True Blood related specials on September 6th, 2008. The first is titled “TRUE BLOOD-LINES: VAMPIRE LEGENDS” and will be broadcast at 7:00PM ET. It has a running time of 25 minutes. The second one is “TRUE BLOOD-LINES: A NEW TYPE” and it will air at 7:25PM ET with a running time of 23 minutes.

These featurettes will be repeated on September 7th at 8:00PM and 8:25PM ET, respectively.

Also, the previous specials “TRUE BLOOD: ALAN BALL POV” and “MAKING TRUE BLOOD” will be repeated several times over the coming week.
